The average size of new homes has been trending down since 2007. And so have Americans' views on the size of their dream home, according to released by Trulia, a real estate website.
Only 9 percent of Americans think their ideal home was McMansion-sized (more than 3,200 square feet, according to the survey of more than 2,000 adults. Another 40 percent said their ideal home would be 2,000 to 3,200 square feet; 9 percent said it would be 800 to 1,400 square feet.
"Americans are veering away from McMansions," said Pete Flint, CEO of Trulia, in a conference call with reporters Thursday. "This market correction has made people realize they didn't really need all that space.
Since the 1950s, the average size of homes has increased in every decade (even with the recessionary hiccups), said Mr. Flint. "While we're only six months into the new decade, I predict that this will be the first decade where homes are built and bought smaller and smarter. The current real estate crisis will have a lasting effect on future generations.

U.S. Soldiers Punished for Not Attending Christian Concert.

For the past several years, two U.S. Army posts in Virginia, Fort Eustis and Fort Lee, have been putting on a series of what are called Commanding General's Spiritual Fitness Concerts. As I've written in a number of other posts, "spiritual fitness" is just the military's new term for promoting religion, particularly evangelical Christianity. And this concert series is no different.
On May 13, 2010, about eighty soldiers, stationed at Fort Eustis while attending a training course, were punished for opting out of attending one of these Christian concerts. The headliner at this concert was a Christian rock band called BarlowGirl, a band that describes itself as taking "an aggressive, almost warrior-like stance when it comes to spreading the gospel and serving God."
Any doubt that this was an evangelical Christian event was cleared up by the Army post's newspaper, the Fort Eustis Wheel, which ran an article after the concert that began:

Oil company BP Plc said on Wednesday that its so-called “static kill” operation of pumping mud into the ruptured well in the Gulf of Mexico had been successful.

The company described the development as a “significant milestone” in its attempt to place a permanent seal on the oil shaft as the well appeared to have reached a “static condition.” Pumping of heavy drilling mud into the well from vessels on the surface began late Tuesday and was stopped after about eight hours, said a statement.

“The well is now being monitored, per the agreed procedure, to ensure it remains static. Further pumping of mud may or may not be required depending on results observed during monitoring.” If the mud injection succeeds in overcoming the upward pressure of oil in the well, which stretches 5-kilometres below the sea floor, engineers would follow by pumping in cement.

The well exploded on April 20 and has become what federal scientists say is the biggest accidental oil spill in world history.

This leads to a confrontation between Mr. Fitz and Aria where Mr. Fitz barely gets to talk, Alison fills in the blanks, and then finally seems to leave him behind. Somehow, I think Mr. Fitz had other plans. With Aria accepting a date with Noel and finally making amends with and accepting her family situation, Mr. Fitz may have made his decision too late in the game. As cute as he is, I wish he would accept a position in New York or start a torrid affair with Aria’s mom. Anything but rekindle his spark with Aria would be most welcome.
Speaking of sparks, am I just imagining that one appears to be growing between Hanna and Lucas? He helped her sell the purse which provided them with their own little inside joke at Mona’s expense. Hanna sticks up for him and spends most of the lockdown time with him. Unfortunately, Emily wasn’t the only one with dirty shoes and I doubt Lucas will say he was also apologizing to Alison. Eastern Indonesian islands of North Maluku province were rocked by an earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale on Tuesday evening, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Potential jurors were asked more than 100 questions, including personal questions about their prescription drug use.
The three also are accused of conspiring to use false names to obtain drugs for Smith, a practice defense attorneys have argued was intended to protect the celebrity's privacy.
Smith died February 8, 2007, from what a Florida medical examiner ruled was "acute combined drug intoxication.

The solar eruption, called a coronal mass ejection, was spotted by NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory, which captures high-definition views of the sun at a variety of wavelengths. The price of the deal agreed in March includes a $200 million note, with the balance in cash, subject to purchase-price adjustments at closing. Ford said Geely had issued the note and paid $1.3 billion in cash to complete the sale. Ford said the estimated purchase price adjustments used at closing are expected to be finalized later this year and that this is expected to result in further proceeds for Ford.
